Creative Ways To Hire Great Restaurant Staff

Before your restaurant opens you will need to hire some employees and the number you hire depends on what your hours of operation will be and what size of restaurant you have. Know what positions you want to fill as well. There should also be enough time for proper training.  Be sure to find the best employees to add to the success and reputation of your restaurant. You want people who will be responsible, dependable and will always be putting forth their best effort. The reputation and success of your restaurant will depend a lot on what type of employees you hire.

Always try to find dedicated and responsible employees.  Offer them a decent wage and some helpful benefits.  An employee’s happiness in their job usual reflects in their work. If you treat your employees fairly, you will have happy, devoted workers and it will reflect onto your successful business.

When you’re ready to hire employees for your restaurant before it opens, place an ad in a classified section of your newspaper or online agency. Mention in the ad  what skills and experience you require and what characteristics you desire in a person.  For example, they have to be pleasant, able to work hard and get along well with other employees and be customer friendly.  If they are successful in obtaining an interview you can further screen them for appropriate skills and personality traits.

Try advertising at the employment office. They will enter the restaurant position(s) in their job bank online.  Many people looking for employment are experienced in the restaurant industry and are eager to work in a new establishment.

Many students work in restaurants after school or on weekends.  If you’re interested in hiring a student from either a local high school, college or university, place an ad on their job postings board which most schools have. Just contact the school for more information.  Another great idea is to inquire at a culinary school for a potential part-time chef or cook.

If you still feel you need extra help in your restaurant once it has opened, try getting referrals from your present employees.  A lot of times a recommendation from an already good employee can be better than a written advertisement.

Try placing an advertisement in your restaurant window stating that you will be looking for new employees in the near future. Put a date, time frame and telephone number when to drop off the application and then you can be sure the hiring process will run smoothly.
